Robert DeNiro Movie Filmed In Orange Tops News For 2017

ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- It was a big 2017 in Orange County and not just because of Daily Voice's launch.

Here are the top stories in 2017 since Daily Voice launched in September.

"The Irishman" starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci filmed at Weirs Ice Cream in Salisbury Mills in October. The Netflix movie, directed by Martin Scorcese, is about a mobster who was involved in the death of Jimmy Hoffa. 

A six-year-old girl was struck and killed by a school bus in Kiryas Joel in November.

After the bus stopped to let several children off, Leah Mezzi of Brooklyn exited the bus and proceeded to a south sidewalk and abruptly changed directions and began to cross the street in front of the bus, state police said.

The bus driver did not see her change directions and she was subsequently struck by the front bumper and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

In November, an explosion and fire at Verla International in New Windsor killed one person and left more than 30 people injured, including seven Newburgh firefighters.

William Huntington, 57, of Newburgh, was killed in the explosion.

Steve Neuhaus was easily re-elected to a second term as Orange County Executive. Neuhaus, a Republican, beat out Patrick Davis with more than 59 percent of the vote.

Molly the donkey had the birth of her baby foal, a girl, Angel, live-streamed on Youtube. Molly, who is staying at Devitt's Farm in New Windsor, gave birth to Angel on Christmas Eve. The father of the baby is named Dominick.
